It’s that time of year when the days are getting cooler and shorter but the activities and gatherings are only increasing.
Like most people, I have a travel bucket list. This list has been revised and rewritten countless times over the years to reflect my evolving interests, influences and stages of life.
When I was young, I distinctly remember wanting so badly to go to Disney World. I listed it as my first bucket list destination. My influences at the time—friends, Disney movies and a mouse named Mickey—fueled my desire to visit the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” At a young age, I was fortunate to cross the Magic Kingdomoff my bucket list and replace it with new dream destinations.
I was thinking about my bucket list recently, while contemplating the recent travel restrictions and the state of the world in general. If I’ve learned anything in the past couple of months, it’s how important it is to stay positive, stay connected and keep our dreams alive. This mindset will allow us to thrive when we emerge from our current restrictions, plus help us keep our sanity in the short term. (The occasional Zoom happy hour doesn't hurt either.)
One of the most recent additions to my bucket list is Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies, which is our featured travel destination. Our travel writer, Renata Faeth, covers three excellent options for experiencing the beauty and wonder of the area. If camping is your thing, check out Raya Garrison’s review of our favorite camping spots in Minnesota. Whether you’re looking for a shorter drive or something road-trip worthy, we’ve got something for everybody. Finally, Katie Ballalatak covers Mackinac Island, a small, charming, historic destination located on Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Before making any travel arrangements, make sure you understand the latest state and national guidelines and restrictions regarding travel and safety.
Stay safe, stay positive and never stop dreaming of your next travel adventure!
Be well,
Jesse Simon

While it might not feel like it when this issue first comes out, there will soon be a shift in the air, and Minnesotans who were once actively outdoors at any opportunity will start to spend more time indoors and back at school. Some people dread this transition, while others are excited for the busy summer to calm down and ease into cooler temperatures and the holiday season. The good news is there is plenty to do around the Twin Cities and beyond, whether you prefer to become an official homebody or are itching to get out and make the most of every second before the first few snowflakes start to accumulate.
There’s something about the month of May in Minnesota. It’s a favorite month for many, including myself, and not just because it’s my birthday month.
We have officially reached the point of winter where we’re all getting stir crazy and are aching for those warm summer days.
