Pet Passengers Can Cause Distraction

Many Minnesotans recognize dogs are wonderful companions, but thousands of us fail to recognize our unrestrained pets distract us in the car. The AAA Kurgo Survey found 80 percent of drivers who travel with their pet do not use a pet-restraint system in the vehicle.

Take your eyes off the road for only two seconds to reach back and pet your dog, or to push it back, and you double your risk of getting into a crash. An unrestrained 9-pound dog in a 50 mph crash will exert roughly 450 pounds of pressure. An unrestrained 90-pound dog in a 30 mph crash will exert 2,700 pounds of pressure. Imagine for a second the amount of devastation that could cause for your dog and other passengers.
